About the Artist: Uzo Njoku, born in Lagos, Nigeria moved to the United States at the age of 7. She is a University of Virginia graduate with a B.A. in Studio Art.

Her works explore the current landscape of contemporary, figurative and nude paintings, particularly with women of color. Due to the salient topics and issues of the 21st century, including race, gender, privacy, social media, and love. Uzo uses her works to empower women of color by giving them uncommon poses and intriguing facial expressions. Each figurative painting combines her Nigerian culture with her American upbringing. Using Ankara fabrics and techniques such as batik, her art speaks to the present and offers glimpses into the future.

In July 2018, Uzo published a feminist coloring book highlighting woman of color featuring Chimamanda Adichie and Serena Williams. To date she has sold over 3,000 copies nationwide and internationally.
